Why Fast and Furious 4 Received Most Negative Reviews in the Franchise?

Fast and Furious 4 received generally negative reviews from professional critics. The film is rated at 28% based on 173 reviews collected on the Rotten Tomatoes website and 45 on Metacritic based on 27 reviews. Now, let's take a look at the reasons why the film is considered that disappointing.
After Tokyo Drift, which despite its respectable budget felt a bit like a straight-to-DVD name-only sequel, 2009's Fast & Furious reunited the original film's cast for the first time in eight years. It helped bring all the necessary components back together while also introducing the prequel element, given that Han (Sung Kang) is still alive despite dying in the previous film, Tokyo Drift. It also starts a tonal shift for the series, with more ridiculous stunts even though the general tone of the film is still relatively downbeat due to the death of Letty (Michelle Rodriguez) early on. Sadly the movie's over-reliance on CGI and pronounced lack of fun makes this easily the weakest of the seven movies, and the fact that Brian gets re-hired by the FBI is more ridiculous than pretty much any stunt in the entire series.
Best Scene: In the opening heist scene, Dom drives his car headlong into a flipping tanker, driving under it as it bounces down the road with mere inches to spare. For the first time in the series, the stunts went from somewhat implausible to totally, insanely ridiculous.
Worst Scene: Any mopey scene where Dom is sad about Letty, or when he's trying to investigate how she died. It's all way too serious for this franchise, and completely detracts from the fun.
Fast and Furious (alternatively known as Fast and Furious 4) is directed by Justin Lin and written by Chris Morgan. It is the fourth installment of The Fast and the Furious franchise. The film serves as a connection from the first film into a present-day setting, with main members of the original cast reprising their roles. Heading back to the streets where it all began, two men rejoin two women to blast muscle, tuner and exotic cars across Los Angeles and floor through the Mexican desert. When a crime brings them back to L.A., fugitive ex-con Dom Toretto reignites his feud with agent Brian O'Connor. But as they are forced to confront a shared enemy, Dom and Brian must give in to an uncertain new trust if they hope to outmaneuver him. And from convoy heists to precision tunnel crawls across international lines, two men will find the best way to get revenge: push the limits of what's possible behind the wheel.
