While details on Jurassic World 2 are still scarce, Chris Pratt teased a “darker” and “scarier” story for the 2018 sequel.

Jurassic World was one of the biggest movies to hit theaters last year, taking in $652.2 million domestically and $1.67 billion worldwide, from a $150 million budget. Director Colin Trevorrow is handing over the directorial reins to J.A. Bayona (The Impossible) for the sequel Jurassic World 2, which will start production in Hawaii early next year, with Universal already setting a June 22, 2018 release date. Colin Trevorrow, who is still involved with the sequel as producer and has written the screenplay with Derek Connolly, started this "scary" talk back in October, when he said the sequel will be "more suspenseful and scary", as it was built around Bayona's skill set. Bayona confirmed the scariness soon after, in an interview with Noticias RCN:

“It will be darker and scarier then the previous film. Obviously when you have Chris Pratt it will also be very funny. But it will be darker. It is a second step in a trilogy, and the second step is always dark, as in 'The Empire Strikes Back' or 'The Wrath of Khan', which are the examples you always get.

The film takes the story where it has never been before. To me it surprised me. We are going to places where the saga has never been before, and at the same time we are paying tribute to the franchise. We will take it a step further. There are things that will happen that people are not expecting and they really are shocking."

And now, at a press junket for Guardians Vol.2, the movie star Chris Pratt was asked what he was allowed to reveal about Jurassic World 2 and said:

“Aw man, J.A. Bayona? Do you know that filmmaker? He’s a remarkable filmmaker. If you haven’t seen The Impossible or A Monster Calls, I mean he’s really visually masterful. Deep emotions and suspense. I think it’s going to be a scarier version. A little bit darker and will continue to expand and carry the story forward in a way that is really unexpected and you wouldn’t have imagined.”

No specific plot details for the Jurassic World sequel have been released by the studio yet, but leaked plot details show that Pratt’s character, who was a dinosaur trainer in Jurassic World, will get embroiled in a government plan to weaponize the dinosaurs created by the JP project.

Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard are reprising their Jurassic World roles in part 2. Their co-stars this time around include Daniella Pineda, Toby Jones, Rafe Spall, Justice Smith, Ted Levine, James Cromwell, and Geraldine Chaplin. B.D. Wong might be back as his Park / World character Dr. Henry Wu, and it has been rumored that Brooke Norbury is playing a 9-year-old girl named Lucy.
